Implicit measures of anthropomorphism: affective priming and recognition of apparent animal emotions

چکیده
It has long been recognized that humans tend to anthropomorphize. That is, we naturally and effortlessly interpret the behaviors of nonhuman agents in same way human behaviors. This tendency only recently become a subject empirical research. Most this work uses explicit measures. Participants are asked whether they attribute some human-like trait agent on scale. These measures, however, have two limitations. First, do not capture automatic components anthropomorphism. Second, generally track one anthropomorphic result: attribution (or non-attribution) particular trait. However, anthropomorphism can affect how animal behavior other ways as well. For example, grin primate often looks us like smile, but it actually signals state more fear or anxiety. In present work, tested for implicit based an affective priming paradigm. Previous suggests with faces displaying emotional expressions facilitated categorization words into congruent emotion categories. Experiments 1–3, primed participants images animals appear express happy sad emotions, categorize positive negative. Experiment 4 used control. Overall, found consistent congruency effects accuracy response time. appeared be robust older adults. Implicit Processing of Visual Emotions Is Affected by Sound-Induced Affective States and Individual Affective Traits
The ability to recognize emotions contained in facial expressions are affected by both affective traits and states and varies widely between individuals. While affective traits are stable in time, affective states can be regulated more rapidly by environmental stimuli, such as music, that indirectly modulate the brain state. Here, we tested whether a relaxing or irritating sound environment aff...
متن کاملMeasuring the Effectiveness of Explicit and Implicit Instruction through Explicit and Implicit Measures
Many studies have examined the effect of different approaches to teaching grammar including explicit and implicit instruction. However, research in this area is limited in a number of respects. One such limitation pertains to the issue of construct validity of the measures, i.e. the knowledge developed through implicit instruction has been measured through instruments which favor th...
متن کاملRecognition and Generation of Emotions in Affective e-Learning
This paper presents an educational system that incorporates two theories namely SAW and OCC in order to provide an improved affective e-learning environment. Simple additive Weighting (SAW) is used for the recognition of possible emotional states of the users, while the cognitive theory of emotions (OCC) is used for the generation of emotional states by educational agents. The system bases its ...
